Description
This product is a white or off-white powder.
Pharmacological Properties
Amoxicillin belongs to the β-lactam class of antibiotics and possesses broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. Its spectrum and potency are essentially identical to Ampicillin. Its activity against most Gram-positive bacteria is slightly weaker than Penicillin, and it is sensitive to penicillinase; therefore, it is ineffective against penicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. It has strong activity against Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Proteus spp., Salmonella spp., Haemophilus spp., Brucella spp., and Pasteurella spp., but these bacteria are prone to developing resistance. It is not active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Due to better absorption in monogastric animals compared to Ampicillin, resulting in higher blood concentrations, it is more effective for systemic infections. It is suitable for systemic infections of the respiratory system, urinary system, skin, and soft tissues caused by susceptible bacteria. Amoxicillin is quite stable against gastric acid, with 74%–92% absorption after oral administration in monogastric animals.
Drug Interactions
Synergy: Concomitant use with aminoglycosides can increase the concentration of the latter within bacteria, exhibiting a synergistic effect.
Antagonism: Rapid-acting bacteriostatic agents such as macrolides, tetracyclines, and amphenicols may interfere with the bactericidal action of this product and should not be used in combination.
Indications
β-lactam antibiotic. Used for infections in chickens caused by penicillin-sensitive bacteria.
Dosage and Administration
Route of Administration: Administration in drinking water.
Chickens: 0.5 g per 1 L of water.
Frequency: Twice daily for 3–7 consecutive days.
Adverse Reactions
No adverse reactions have been observed when used according to the recommended dosage and administration.
Precautions
Contraindication: Do not use in laying hens during the egg production period.
Stability: The aqueous solution is unstable; prepare immediately before use.
Withdrawal Period
Chickens: 7 days.
