OXYTETRACYCLINE UTERINE INFUSION 10%
DESCRIPTION
Oxytetracycline Uterine Infusion 10% is a sterile, yellow to light brownish-yellow clear liquid. It contains 10% w/v Oxytetracycline (100 mg/mL) as the active ingredient. It belongs to the tetracycline class of antibiotics and is specifically formulated for local administration into the uterus.
Specification
10% Oxytetracycline
INDICATIONS
This product is indicated for the treatment of uterine infections in cattle caused by oxytetracycline-sensitive bacteria.
Target Pathogens:
Gram-Positive Bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes (hemolytic streptococcus), and non-hemolytic streptococci.
Gram-Negative Bacteria: Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp.
Conditions:
Metritis
Endometritis
Uterine infections associated with calving.
PHARMACOLOGY
Mechanism of Action: Oxytetracycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. This prevents the attachment of aminoacyl-tRNA to the ribosomal acceptor (A) site, effectively stopping bacterial growth (bacteriostatic).
Local Action: Direct uterine infusion ensures high local concentrations of the antibiotic at the site of infection, minimizing systemic absorption and side effects.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Route of Administration: Intrauterine Infusion only.
Target Animals: Cattle (Cows).
Recommended Dose:
Volume: 50 mL to 100 mL per treatment (equivalent to 5g to 10g of Oxytetracycline).
Frequency: Administer every 2 days.
Course of Treatment: Repeat for a total of 3 administrations (or as directed by a veterinarian).
Procedure:
Ensure strict hygiene and aseptic technique.
Clean the vulva and surrounding area thoroughly.
Insert a sterile uterine catheter through the cervix into the uterus.
Infuse the calculated dose slowly.
WITHDRAWAL PERIODS
Meat and Milk: Withdrawal periods vary by country and specific product registration.
Note: Because this is a local treatment, systemic levels are low, but residue limits still apply. Consult the specific manufacturer's label for the exact number of days to withhold milk and meat after the last treatment.
CONTRAINDICATIONS AND WARNINGS
Hypersensitivity: Do not use in animals with a known hypersensitivity to oxytetracycline or other tetracyclines.
Systemic Use: This product is for local uterine use only. Do not inject intravenously or intramuscularly.
Human Warning: Wash hands after administration. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
Environmental: Dispose of unused product and containers according to local regulations.
