POVIDONE-IODINE TEAT DIP SOLUTION 10%
DESCRIPTION
Povidone-Iodine Teat Dip Solution 10% is a reddish-brown liquid containing 10% Povidone-Iodine complex (equivalent to 1% available iodine or 10,000 ppm). It is a broad-spectrum antiseptic formulated with emollients and surfactants.
Excipients: Glycerin or other moisturizers (to prevent skin cracking), surfactants (for cleaning), and water.

INDICATIONS
This product is indicated for use in dairy herd management to:
Prevent Mastitis: Control and prevent bovine mastitis by reducing the bacterial load on teat skin.
Sanitize Teats: Effectively kill pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella spp.
Clean Teat Skin: The added surfactants help dissolve organic matter (manure, milk residue) on the teat surface.
PHARMACOLOGY
Mechanism of Action: The Povidone-Iodine complex slowly releases free iodine, which penetrates the cell wall of microorganisms. It oxidizes cellular proteins and enzymes, leading to the death of the bacteria, virus, or fungus.
Spectrum: Effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa.
Emollient Action: The formulation includes skin conditioners to maintain the moisture balance of the teat skin, preventing chapping and hyperkeratosis.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Dilution Instructions (Crucial)
Since this is a 10% concentrate, it must be diluted with water before use.
Pre-Milking Teat Dip: Dilute to a concentration of 0.5% to 1% Povidone-Iodine.
Ratio: Mix 1 part concentrate with 9 to 19 parts water (1:10 to 1:20 dilution).
Example: To make a 1% solution, mix 1 liter of concentrate with 9 liters of water.
Application Method
Pre-Dip: Apply the diluted solution to the entire teat surface using a dip cup or spray before milking.
Contact Time: Allow to stand for at least 30 seconds.
Wipe Off: Thoroughly dry teats with a single-use paper towel or clean cloth before attaching milking units.
Post-Dip (Optional): If used as a post-dip, ensure the concentration is appropriate (usually 0.5% - 1%) and do not wipe off.
WITHDRAWAL PERIODS
Milk: Zero (0) days. When used as directed (diluted for teat dipping), there is no withdrawal period for milk.
Meat: Zero (0) days.
CONTRAINDICATIONS AND WARNINGS
Hypersensitivity: Do not use on animals with a known hypersensitivity to iodine or Povidone-Iodine.
Dilution Warning: Do not apply the 10% concentrate directly to the skin without dilution, as it may cause severe irritation or chemical burns.
Incompatibility: Do not mix with other disinfectants, especially those containing mercury, silver, or alkaline substances, as this may reduce efficacy.
Human Warning: For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands after use.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
Local: Occasional mild, transient stinging or irritation may occur at the application site, particularly if the skin is broken or if the solution is not properly diluted.
Skin Health: If used without proper emollients or at too high a concentration, it may cause teat skin dryness or cracking over time.
STORAGE
Store in a cool, dark place (below 25°C).
Protect from direct sunlight and heat.
Keep container tightly closed when not in use.
Shelf life: Typically 24 months.
