CEFQUINOME SULFATE INTRAMAMMARY INFUSION (DRY COW)
DESCRIPTION
Cefquinome Sulfate Intramammary Infusion (Dry Cow) is a sterile, oily suspension or ointment containing Cefquinome Sulfate (typically 150 mg per syringe). Cefquinome is a fourth-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. This formulation is specifically designed for long-term persistence in the udder during the dry period to eliminate existing infections and prevent new ones.

INDICATIONS
This product is indicated for the treatment and prevention of bovine mastitis during the dry period. It is effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria, including:
Gram-Positive Bacteria:
Staphylococcus aureus (including penicillinase-producing strains)
Streptococcus agalactiae
Streptococcus dysgalactiae
Streptococcus uberis
Gram-Negative Bacteria:
Escherichia coli
Klebsiella spp.
Trueperella pyogenes (formerly Arcanobacterium pyogenes)
PHARMACOLOGY
Mechanism of Action: Cefquinome acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and death.
Stability: It is stable against beta-lactamases and penicillinases produced by resistant bacteria.
Persistence: The oily vehicle ensures the drug remains in the teat cistern for an extended period (the entire dry period), providing sustained antimicrobial activity.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Route of Administration: Intramammary infusion only.
Target Animals: Dry cows only. Do not use in lactating cows intended for milk production.
Recommended Dose:
One syringe (containing 150 mg Cefquinome sulfate) per infected or treated quarter.
Timing:
Administer immediately after the last milking before the dry period begins.
Treat all quarters or only infected quarters as directed by a veterinarian.
Procedure:
Clean and dry the teat ends thoroughly.
Disinfect the teat end with alcohol.
Insert the cannula into the teat canal.
Infuse the entire contents of the syringe.
Massage the base of the teat to distribute the medication.
WITHDRAWAL PERIODS
Milk:
Do not use milk for human consumption for at least 42 days (approx. 6 weeks) after calving.
Note: If the dry period is shorter than 42 days, the cow must not be milked for human consumption until at least 42 days after treatment. Always check the specific product label (e.g., some regions may specify "Dry period > 5 weeks").
Meat:
Cattle: 0 days (or as specified by local regulations, typically negligible due to local action).
CONTRAINDICATIONS AND WARNINGS
Allergy: Do not use in animals with a known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or beta-lactam antibiotics.
Lactating Cows: Do not use in lactating dairy cows. This formulation is too potent and persistent for use during lactation. Use the "Lactating Cow" formulation (typically 75 mg) instead.
Human Warning: Cephalosporins can cause allergic reactions in humans (skin sensitization). Wear gloves when administering. Wash hands after use.
Resistance: Use only based on bacteriological diagnosis and sensitivity testing where possible to prevent antibiotic resistance.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
Local: Transient swelling or inflammation of the udder may occur immediately after calving.
Systemic: Rare cases of anaphylaxis may occur in hypersensitive animals.

Protect from light and freezing.
