DESCRIPTION
Gamimycin Injections 15% is a sterile, clear, colorless to light yellow solution.
Active Ingredient: Gentamicin Sulfate (150 mg/mL).
Chemical Class: Aminoglycoside antibiotic.
Solubility: Freely soluble in water.

INDICATIONS
This product is indicated for the treatment of serious bacterial infections caused by Gram-negative and certain Gram-positive bacteria susceptible to Gentamicin.
Target Pathogens:
Gram-Negative: Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus spp., Klebsiella spp., Salmonella spp., Pasteurella spp.
Gram-Positive: Staphylococcus aureus (including penicillinase-producing strains).
Clinical Conditions:
Respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia).
Urinary tract infections (e.g., cystitis, pyelonephritis).
Septicemia and bacteremia.
Soft tissue infections and wound infections.
Bone and joint infections.
PHARMACOLOGY
Mechanism of Action: Gentamicin binds irreversibly to the 30S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria. This inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, leading to cell death (bactericidal activity).
Spectrum: It is primarily active against aerobic Gram-negative bacilli.
Pharmacokinetics: Rapidly absorbed after intramuscular injection. It is distributed in extracellular fluids and accumulates in the renal cortex and inner ear (perilymph), which is the basis for its potential toxicity. It is excreted unchanged in the urine.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Route of Administration: Intramuscular (IM) or Intravenous (IV) injection.
Recommended Dose (General Guideline):
Cattle, Swine, Sheep: 2.2 mg to 6.6 mg Gentamicin per kg of body weight per day.
Frequency: Usually administered once daily or divided into two equal doses (every 12 hours).
Duration: Treatment typically lasts 3 to 5 days.
Calculation for 15% Solution (150 mg/mL):
For a 50 kg pig at 4.4 mg/kg: approx. 1.5 mL.
Note: Dosage should be adjusted based on the severity of infection and renal function.
WITHDRAWAL PERIODS
Meat: Do not slaughter for human consumption within 40 to 60 days of the last treatment (varies by region).
Milk: Not for use in lactating dairy cattle. Milk from treated animals must not be used for human consumption.
Eggs: Do not use in hens producing eggs for human consumption.
CONTRAINDICATIONS AND WARNINGS
Nephrotoxicity & Ototoxicity: Gentamicin can cause kidney damage (nephrotoxicity) and hearing loss/balance disorders (ototoxicity).
Precaution: Use with caution in dehydrated animals or those with pre-existing renal impairment.
Hydration: Ensure animals are adequately hydrated during treatment.
Neuromuscular Blockade: Aminoglycosides can potentiate neuromuscular blockade. Use with caution in animals receiving anesthetics or muscle relaxants.
Incompatibility:
Do not mix with beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g., Penicillins, Cephalosporins) in the same syringe or IV line, as they can physically inactivate each other.
Do not mix with alkaline solutions (e.g., Sodium Bicarbonate).
ADVERSE REACTIONS
Local: Pain and swelling at the injection site.
Systemic:
Renal tubular necrosis (kidney damage).
Vestibular damage (loss of balance, head tilt) or auditory damage (deafness).
Neurological symptoms (tremors, convulsions) in cases of overdose or rapid IV administration.
STORAGE
Store below 25°C (77°F).
Protect from light.
Keep container tightly closed.
Shelf life: Typically 24 months.
