Appearance: Clear, yellowish to amber liquid.
Solubility: Freely soluble in water.
Chemical Class: Macrolide antibiotic.
Specification
1ml:200mg Tylosin
INDICATIONS
This product is indicated for the treatment and control of infectious diseases caused by Tylosin-sensitive organisms, particularly Mycoplasma and Gram-positive bacteria.
Swine
Mycoplasmal Pneumonia: Treatment of swine pneumonia (enzootic pneumonia) caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae.
Atrophic Rhinitis: Control of infectious atrophic rhinitis caused by Pasteurella multocida and Bordetella bronchiseptica.
Dysentery: Treatment of swine dysentery (bloody scours) caused by Brachyspira hyodysenteriae.
Arthritis: Treatment of mycoplasmal arthritis.
Poultry
Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD): Treatment of chronic respiratory disease in chickens caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum.
Infectious Sinusitis: Treatment of infectious sinusitis in turkeys caused by Mycoplasma synoviae.
Airsacculitis: Control of airsacculitis associated with E. coli and Mycoplasma.
PHARMACOLOGY
Mechanism of Action: Tylosin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria. It is primarily bacteriostatic but may be bactericidal at high concentrations.
Spectrum:
Highly Active Against: Mycoplasma spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp., Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae.
Active Against: Pasteurella spp., Bordetella spp., Clostridium spp.
Pharmacokinetics: Rapidly absorbed after intramuscular or subcutaneous injection. Peak blood concentrations are usually reached within 1–2 hours. It is widely distributed in body tissues, with highest concentrations in the liver, kidneys, and lungs.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Route of Administration: Intramuscular (IM) or Subcutaneous (SC) injection.
Recommended Dose:
Swine: 5 to 13 mg Tylosin per kg of body weight (equivalent to 2.5 to 6.5 mL per 100 kg body weight) once daily.
Poultry: 5 to 13 mg Tylosin per kg of body weight.
Duration: Administer for 3 to 5 consecutive days.
WITHDRAWAL PERIODS
Swine: Do not slaughter for human consumption within 21 days of the last treatment.
Poultry: Do not slaughter for human consumption within 28 days of the last treatment.
Milk: Not for use in lactating dairy cattle.
CONTRAINDICATIONS AND WARNINGS
Species Sensitivity: Do not use in horses, goats, or rabbits, as macrolide antibiotics can cause severe digestive disturbances and fatal colitis in these species.
Hypersensitivity: Do not use in animals with a known hypersensitivity to Tylosin or other macrolides.
Incompatibility:
Do not mix with other antibiotics, particularly beta-lactams (e.g., penicillins, cephalosporins), as Tylosin is bacteriostatic and may antagonize the bactericidal action of beta-lactams.
Do not mix with lincomycin or clindamycin due to similar mechanisms of action (competition for ribosomal binding sites).
Metal Ions: Solutions containing iron or copper ions may inactivate Tylosin.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
Local Reactions: Pain and swelling at the injection site are common, particularly with intramuscular injection.
Systemic: High doses may cause transient diarrhea or vomiting.
IV Warning: Do not administer intravenously, as it may cause thrombophlebitis.
STORAGE
Store below 25°C (77°F).
Protect from light.
Keep container tightly closed.
Shelf life: Typically 24 months.
