【 Main Ingredients 】 Oxytetracycline

【 Appearance 】 This product is a yellow to light brownish yellow clear liquid.  

Pharmacological effects: Oxytetracycline belongs to the tetracycline class of broad-spectrum antibiotics, with strong effects on Gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Bacillus anthracis, Clostridium tetani, and Clostridium difficile, but not as effective as β - lactams. It is more sensitive to Gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Brucella, and Pasteurella, but not as sensitive as aminoglycoside and amide antibiotics. This product also has inhibitory effects on rickettsia, chlamydia, mycoplasma, spirochetes, actinomycetes, and certain protozoa.

Drug interactions: (1) Equivalent use with strong diuretics such as furosemide can worsen renal function damage. (2) Belonging to rapid acting antibacterial drugs, it can interfere with the bactericidal effect of penicillin on bacterial growth period, and should be avoided for simultaneous use. (3) When used together with calcium salts, iron salts, or drugs containing metal ions such as calcium, magnesium, aluminum, bismuth, iron, etc. (including traditional Chinese medicine), insoluble complexes can be formed to reduce drug absorption.

[Usage and Dosage] Intramuscular injection: One dose, 0.05-0.1ml per 1kg body weight for livestock

【 Adverse reactions 】 (1) Local irritant effect. The hydrochloric acid saline solution of this class of drugs has strong irritants, and intramuscular injection can cause pain, inflammation, and necrosis at the injection site. (2) Disruption of gut microbiota. Tetracycline drugs have a broad-spectrum inhibitory effect on equine gut bacteria, which can lead to secondary infections caused by drug-resistant Salmonella or unknown pathogens (including Clostridium difficile, etc.), resulting in severe or even fatal diarrhea. This situation often occurs after high-dose intravenous administration, but may also occur after low-dose intramuscular injection. (3) Affects tooth and bone development. Tetracycline drugs bind with calcium after entering the body and deposit with calcium in teeth and bones. This type of drug is also prone to cross the placenta and enter breast milk, so pregnant, lactating, and small animals are prohibited from using it. During the period of use in lactating cows, milk is prohibited from being marketed. (4) Liver and kidney damage. This class of drugs has toxic effects on liver and kidney cells. Tetracycline antibiotics can cause dose-dependent changes in kidney function in various animals. (5) Anti metabolic effects. Tetracycline drugs can cause azotemia, which can be exacerbated by the presence of steroid drugs. These drugs can also cause metabolic acidosis and electrolyte imbalance.
